OUR SERVICES
Innovative Energy designs and installs grid-tied and off-grid solar and wind systems, customized for homes and businesses across Colorado. Grid-tied systems work alongside the utility grid to reduce electricity costs and may qualify for incentives, while off-grid systems offer full energy independence - ideal for remote locations or those seeking self-sufficiency.
We also specialize in battery storage, which plays a vital role in both system types: adding backup power during outages and ensuring steady energy when solar or wind isn’t producing. Whether you're looking to offset your usage, go fully off-grid, or enhance your system's resilience, we tailor every solution to perform reliably in Colorado’s rugged terrain.
If you’re ready to start your renewable energy journey, you’ve come to the right place.
GRID-TIED SYSTEMS
GRID-TIED SOLAR
Grid-tied solar systems produce electricity for residential or commercial buildings while remaining connected to the local utility grid.
This connection ensures you have reliable power at all times. When your solar panels aren’t generating enough energy, such as at night or during cloudy weather, you automatically draw electricity from the grid. When your system produces more power than you need, excess energy can often be sent back to the grid for bill credits through net metering (where available).
Solar panels can be installed in a variety of ways to fit your property, including roof-mounted, pole-mounted, or custom ground-mounted configurations.
These systems are typically designed to offset as much of your utility usage as possible, helping reduce monthly energy costs. Many projects may also qualify for federal, state, or utility incentives.
Important: Standard grid-tied systems will not operate during a power outage unless they are paired with battery backup.
GRID-TIED WIND
Grid-tied wind turbines generate clean, renewable electricity while remaining connected to the utility grid. They can help reduce or supplement utility-supplied power when wind resources are strong and consistent.
These systems perform best in areas with steady, laminar wind flow and are typically most effective on open, relatively flat terrain. Highly turbulent or extreme gust conditions, common in some mountainous regions, may limit performance and system longevity.
When production exceeds on-site demand, excess energy may be exported to the utility grid for credit, depending on local net metering policies.
We carefully evaluate site-specific wind conditions and design systems tailored to Colorado’s alpine environments when wind resources make sense for long-term performance.
OFF GRID-SYSTEMS
OFF-GRID SOLAR
Off-grid solar systems operate completely independent of the utility grid, providing primary power for remote properties or for those who choose energy independence.
They’re often the ideal solution in locations where extending utility lines is too expensive or impractical. These systems are designed with battery storage to ensure reliable power at night and during periods of low sunlight.
Solar arrays can be installed on rooftops, pole mounts, or ground-mounted structures, depending on site conditions and energy needs.
With a properly designed off-grid system, you gain reliable, self-sustaining power and true energy independence.
OFF-GRID WIND
Off-grid wind turbines can work alongside solar to create a more balanced and reliable renewable energy system, especially during seasons when solar production is reduced.
They are most effective in areas with steady, consistent wind throughout the year. Turbulent or highly gusty conditions can reduce performance and increase wear on equipment.
When integrated properly, wind power helps decrease generator runtime and lowers reliance on fossil fuels. Because wind energy production fluctuates, these systems must be paired with battery storage to capture excess energy and provide stable power.
Most commercial wind turbines are not engineered for extreme alpine environments. We offer durable options specifically selected and designed for rugged, high-elevation conditions.
ENERGY STORAGE
Battery storage plays a vital role in both grid-tied and off-grid renewable energy systems by storing excess energy for use when production is low or unavailable.
For grid-tied systems, batteries provide backup power during utility outages and increase your home’s overall energy resilience. For off-grid systems, battery storage is essential—it supplies power whenever solar panels or wind turbines are not actively generating electricity.
Battery Options
Lead-Acid: A cost-effective solution with proven reliability, though it requires regular maintenance and has a shorter lifespan.
Lithium-Ion: Higher upfront investment, but longer lifespan, greater efficiency, and minimal maintenance.
Storage systems can also be customized to meet your needs and budget. Many homeowners choose to back up essential loads only,
such as refrigeration, lighting, well pumps, or medical equipment, reducing overall system cost while maintaining reliable power where it matters most.
